Maverick Sabre - Let Me Go

I chose this opening shot from Maverick Sabre - Let Me Go due to the fact that the audience presume that this unknown character is laying dead in some sort of desert wasteland and the story unravels and revolves around this opening scene. Also the actors clothes are very smart which gives the impression that he is wealthy or very important.

This wide-angled shot of a lit-up casino sets the scene for this music video as it is very apparent that it is set in Las Vegas. The story line around the music video Let Me Go is clearly about money, wealth or just having a good time. 

This side tracking shot of the car Maverick Sabre is singing in shows that he has his own chauffeur or that he is with his "wingman" off to one of the casinos. Furthermore the car that he is in appears expensive and classic which shows he is wealthy.

This mid-ranged shot of Maverick Sabre's wingman and a n attractive woman is interesting due to the fact that it appears that they are in love but the audience find out that later on in the story that she is a gold digger and a thief. Furthermore they are also drinking what appears to be champagne which is usually associated with upper class people and also shows that alcohol can change peoples perceptions.

This final shot I chose for Let Me Go due to the fact that it brings the storyline together as the woman steals the Maverick's wingman's money and credit cards and leaves him unaware, asleep in the hotel room. Furthermore the male has none of his original clothes on him in this shot which must mean that the audience presume that this character is going to become portrayed at the start of this music video dead on the floor.

Modestep - Feel Good

I chose this opening shot from the music video Modestep - Feel Good due to the fact that the mask on the women's bed is one from the collection of comedy and tradegy masks. This gives an insight into the females character as she has drawn a tongue sticking out of the mask which shows that she is a character that likes to have fun and gets up to mischief. Furthermore the women has her hood up which portrays that she does not which to be seen or to remain hidden.

In this upward shot, the office workers are opening the briefcase that has been given to them for money by the main female character. The golden / yellow light shining from the briefcase suggests that whatever is inside is precious or amazing, portrayed by the expression on the middle office workers comical face.

In this wide angled shot of the office the workers are all dancing around in a crazed fashion which contradicts the stereotype of the office being a quiet and boring place. This shows that the object in the briefcase has caused them to stop working and dance which portrays the object as powerful and/or extraordinary.

This cut shot of the club with the main vocalist from Modestep singing to the crowd sides away from the main storyline and portrays that this song is very popular in most clubs and the crowd are thoroughly enjoying the music. Also this could link back to the main story as the office workers were crazily dancing to the music, similar to the crowd in the club.

In this final shot of the music video, the briefcase from the main story is shown in the club. It is now apparent to the viewer that the song playing throughout the music video was being played from the record player disguised in the briefcase. Furthermore on the record the a face with a tongue sticking out is shown, and this relates back to the beginning of the music video where the women had a tongue drawn on her comedy and tradegy mask in her bedroom. 

Skream & Example - Shot Yourself In The Foot Again

I chose this opening screen grab in the music video Skream & Example - Shot Yourself In The Foot Again due to the fact that the shot uses the rule of thirds to isolate the man on his own. Even though this shot identifies that the time of day is the evening it portrays, the man as a dark character as he is smoking on his own in a dark street. Furthermore the flame from the lighter shows the audience what the man looks like and portrays him as the main character as this is the first shot of the music video.

This shot in the opening scene of the music video shows the main male character with the main female character we are introduced to. This portrays that they are both in some sort of relationship, but how strong their bond is, is unclear. Furthermore she has put a photo of themselves next to her mirror which shows affection for him as females tend to look in the mirror alot for their appearance. However this questions the unfolding storyline as if the photo shows them together then why is the man out on a dark street alone.

This shot shows the main female character laying the table with two bowls of food which portrays that the meal is supposed to be for just the two of them. Also the birthday cake also represents that it is the male characters birthday and that his partner has put a lot of effort into making this a special night. Furthermore the story becomes more clear as the woman is placing the food before he is there which means that she is expecting him to be home any minute. But as shown in the previous shots he is elsewhere and has clearly forgotten.

In this shot the male character is show in a club, kissing a stranger we have not been introduced to which shows that he is being disloyal to his partner and has clearly no intention of meeting her for the meal. This also gives an insight to his personality as it appears that he would rather get drunk and have one night stands rather than have a solid relationship.

In this shot the female character is ripping the photo in half that we saw as a whole at the beginning of the video. This shows that the female has had enough of her partner being a liability and doesn't love him anymore, by ripping the photo between the two of them portrays her as wanting to separate. Furthermore the mirror reflects how she feels as she is crying on the bed and her eyeliner is running, showing that she is really upset. Also the pile of clothes on the floor and the open drawer shows that she has tipped all his clothes out and is going to put them in a bin liner.
