Dubba Jonny - All In

This opening shot of Dubba Jonny All In shows a group of friends pre drinking for a house party in the car. This is interesting as we presume that this group of friends is late or being expected at the party so they are pre drinking to save time. Furthermore this scene shows that this they are quite responsible as they look old enough to be drinking and they have a designated driver.

This is interesting as the drummer for the house party and possibly for Dubba Jonny has his drum set in the kitchen of the house party. This suggests that the party is quite busy / packed.

This type of shot is popularly used in dance, dubstep and rap music videos. It is apparent why as it adds sex appeal to the artists and bands music video, which would usually attract most of the male audience.

Here a girl at the party is smoking something out of a cardboard tube. This suggests that the party has drugs, but what kind we are unsure. Furthermore the female may not be able to afford smoking utensils so she is using a cardboard tube.

Here drunken adults are shown at the party having a good time. I like the lighting used in the music video as it is bright and vibrant which is representative of youth culture and having a good time. Furthermore the music video shows scenes from many different rooms in the party because there is a different atmosphere in every room. For example in the bedroom they are chilled out doing drugs whereas in the main hall / lounge people are dancing around.

Kanye West - Stronger

This opening shot in Kanye West's Stronger shows Daft Punk monitoring Kanye on futuristic screens which looks like the setting is in the space age. Also it is common for many artists to feature other bands in their videos, especially if they assist them with the backing track or lyrics, such as Daft Punk provided the backing basis for Kanye's song.

Here the use of CGI and Visual Special Effects works really well due to the fact that Kanye sings about being made stronger and judging by the size of this unknown machine that look like an X-Ray it is doing something to his body.

In this shot Kanye is shown rapping against a wall but the video layer has wavy lines over it, which suggest that this is being watched on a monitor or screen, probably by Daft Punk. Furthermore his shades are quite funky and futuristic which also ties in with the time of the video.

Here Kanye is singing to a female in a futuristic setting lit up by a predominant blue light which creates a chilled-out sexy mood for the scene. Also using an attractive woman in his music video makes it appealing to the male audience and is a technique frequently used in the music industry.

In this final shot Kanye West is shown breaking out of his room / cell which makes the audience now apparent that he is not wanting to be kept here to be made stronger, he just seems to be imprisoned here for scientific research.

Deadmau5 - Ghosts N Stuff

This opening shot for Deadmau5 "Ghosts N Stuff" is a bird's eye view of a presumed unconscious man being wheeled through the hospital on a ward trolley. This is a good opening scene as the audience are left to question what has happened to this man and will he be okay.

In this shot it is apparent that the man has passed away due to the fact that using a layered effect, comically a ghost appears from the man's body in the hospital. 

Here we see the artist of the video Deadmau5 in a nightclub in his trademark headgear which suggests that he is partying and having fun. Furthermore in the background there are people with fancy dress so therefore it could be fancy dress or even Halloween which would tie in with the ghost from the previous scene.

Here the comical ghost is seen trying to act normal or human by ordering a fast food meal but struggling to consume it. This shows that the ghost is trying to be human and previously who he was but he can't be. Also the chef is acting strangely towards the ghost as it is not a part of everyday life and it is apparent that the ghost appears as a joker.

In this final scene the man comes back to life in the hospital ward, only to be awaken with the space invaders tattoo that the ghost had as shown in the previous screenshot. This shows how a part of the man seemed to live on in the ghost and suggests that maybe there is life after death.

Nero - Guilt

This is the opening shot to Nero's video for Guilt. It is very interesting due to the fact that the use of CGI and clever special effects helps portray and create a futuristic city which possibly resembles Hong Kong. Also the fact that the band name is shown on a screen portrays that the bad expects to still be known and popular in the future.

This shot is shown inside a strip club. This shows that in the future women are still seen as sex objects. Furthermore the use of bright strobe lights in red and purple create a sexy and calming atmosphere.

This close up shot of the Asian / oriental businessman is voyeuring the stripper and seems to be very important , possibly head of a triad gang or high class organisation. Furthermore the strip club seems to be very open and not that busy which may mean that this is a private club possibly owned by the businessman.

This is the most interesting shot in the entire music video as it completely changes the setting and storyline. As shown the stripper turns into some sort of monster or creature, which makes the audience think that there may be extra terrestrial life in the future. Furthermore the girl / monster attacks the businessman which suggests she has had enough of him sexual viewing her. 

This final shot is attention-grabbing as the name of the song "Guilt" is cleverly shown as the name of the club at the end of the video. This could also tie in with the fact that the stripper may feel guilty about her profession or the fact that she is a monster.

Hadouken - M.A.D

In this opening scene of Hadouken's music video M.A.D a person is dressed in a mouse costume. This is very comical as you would not see this in everyday life and that in real life mice are small and are not the same size as humans. Furthermore the character has the characteristics of a hoodlum or troublemaker as he is wearing bling, walking with a swagger, and creating disrupt by banging a stick against buildings.

In this shot the mouse is shown grinding and chatting up two females on the side of the street. This portrays him as a dirty male as he just wants the girls for sexual reasons. Furthermore he is rejected for maybe dressing like a mouse.

This is my favourite shot in the entire music video due to the fact that the shopkeeper refuses to sell the mouse alcohol as he is comically underage. So the mouse beats up the shopkeeper. Furthermore the shot is great because the facial expression on the mouse costume has now been changed to an angry look. 

In this shot a blur effect is used to give the impression that the mouse has drunk too much and is now experiencing blurred vision. Also the facial expression on the costume has again changed as he is pouring away the drink as he may feel anxiety or even ill.

This final upward shot is where the mouse gets attacked by another person in a cat costume. This is a typical enemy for a mouse and i comically represented showing that the mouse is not the only giant animal around here. Finally i believe that the message summed up here is that it is a dog eat dog world, meaning that if you go around misbehaving, someone is going to misbehave towards you.

Scooter - J'adore Hardcore

I chose this opening shot from the music video Scooter - J'adore Hardcore due to the fact that i like the use of lighting as Pae & Sarah perform a synchronised Melbourne Shuffle. As they dance in the shadows it gives a silhouette impression in front of the bold lit up city behind them. I really love this shot and the music video as a whole due to the fact that it makes the Melbourne Shuffle, a lost dance from the 80's, re-noticed. 

This is a very interesting shot due to the fact that Pae is shuffling at numerous different angles and on the floor it has the angle 833 degrees. Furthermore it looks as though he is shuffling in a playground which adds a sense of people wanting the shuffle to be learnt and performed from the playground up, so to speak. 

Here the music video is split up into shots of Pae & Sarah shuffling, shots of Scooter singing and club shots like the one above. This is common in most dance or hardcore music videos as most artists prefer to get many shots for their video whilst performing due to the expensive lighting and the crowds reactions.

This is a close up shot of the Artist Scooter. What i like about this shot and how Scooter appears is the fact that he has piercings and skull rings which are usually associated with bands in the punk genre, as apposed to hard style. 

This shot in j'adore hardcore is a panning upward shot of a female dancer in a club. This is common in dance clubs and music videos as it adds sex appeal to the male audience. 

Devlin - Community Outcast

I chose this opening shot for Devlin's music video community outcast due to the fact that it sets the scene for the music video really well. Firstly the use of black and white tone throughout the video shows that this song is representative of good and bad in the world. Furthermore the fact that there are tower blocks in the background show that this is most likely set in a built up run down area in England.

This shot shows a group of kids on bikes appearing not to be doing much but hanging around. This portrays that there is not much to do in their area, perhaps due to the fault of the government not providing things for the youth to do in this area. 

This shot shows a homeless person looking through an expensive shop window. This portrays that the man wishes for a better life for himself as he does not own any money or nice clothes, let alone a place to stay. Furthermore the fact that the man has a sleeping blanket wrapped around him suggests that this is his most valuable thing to him as he is clenching it tight to keep himself warm.

This shot shows an elderly man sitting in the dark on his own. The fact that he has his eyes closed suggests that he is either tired , upset or fed up with life as he has no electricity in his home and is alone. Furthermore because he is wearing a thick jumper suggests that he does not have any heating in his home.

This shot is the most powerful one in the entire music video. Due to the fact that it shows a single mum, suspectedly dead, due to an overdose. This shows that this woman clearly couldn't cope with being a single parent and now her young child has found her dead and does not know what to do. This sums up the video as it clearly portrays how the government are not providing enough support for single parents.
